The Bible – A faithful friend
“I rejoice in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches…The law from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver coins.” Psalms 119:14, 72
Some people cheer when their favorite team scores a goal or if they win money. There is nothing wrong with that, but there is something that is far, far better and that allows you to rejoice and be happy every day – the Bible.
Some say that the dog is man’s best friend. Dogs are nice and affectionate. They are generally happy, innocent and are by one’s side like a friend. So I understand people who feel that way.
But there is an even better friend, a book, the old book, so talked about, loved, hated, feared and questioned – the Bible. I love the Bible. I read it every day, year after year. It is alive and different. It is written by men but inspired by God. It is a spiritual book that strengthens and touches the heart.
The Bible opens up a completely different dimension, the invisible, spiritual dimension. Through the Bible, you can see into the spiritual world and also into the history and the future.
The Bible shows you God and His holiness and glory. It shows you the abilities of the angels and the strategies and evil character of the devil. The Bible shows you the glory of heaven and the torments of hell.
The beloved book preaches faith in hopeless situations, it speaks miracles and makes downtrodden people rise again. It warns against the temptations of sin, the false comfort of wealth, and the curse of selfishness.
God’s book to man shows the whole spectrum of people who have gone before us. We can take warning from their failures so we don’t have to make the same mistakes. We can learn from their wise decisions. We can be inspired by their courage, faith and love.
The Bible does not contain the word of God, it is the word of God. It doesn’t care what people say and think, it stands firm and it wants to speak to you, my friend. Open it, read it, believe and practice it and you will see that it works. You will begin to love the Bible. It points to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and shows the way into fellowship with God. The Bible shows and teaches us to walk with God and how we can experience God’s love, grace and faithfulness. You can experience security in an unsafe world and one day reach the eternal abode of heaven.
“Therefore I love Your commandments above gold, even fine gold.” Psalm 119:127
God bless you.
